Parking Restriction Measures Under Consideration for Braddock District

A Community Parking District (CPD) in Fairfax County is a specially designated zone that restricts parking. CPDs restrict parking for boat trailers, watercraft, motor homes, camping trailers, other large trailers, vehicles with three or more axles, and vehicles with gross ratings over 12,000 pounds. Fairfax county communities may implement CPDs via a petition process. This process is somewhat involved, but many CPDs have been implemented in the county using this process, including one in neighboring Danbury Forest.

Earlier this year, the county adopted a measure that would allow for large area CPDs. For this new process, a district supervisor would submit a request that would include all or most of their magisterial district. This process does not require petitioning; it is implemented through the district supervisor at the supervisor's discretion. More information on both types of CPDs can be found at www.fairfaxcounty.gov/fcdot/large_cpd.htm.

The Braddock District Supervisor's Office is soliciting views in early 2009 on a potential large area Community Parking District (CPD) for the Braddock District. While individual citizens may always contact the supervisor's office with their views, the KPCA has the opportunity to comment on the idea as a community organization. The February 19, 2009 KPCA member meeting features a discussion to determine whether and how the KPCA should comment on the proposed large area CPD.
